2. I have a question about the subject matter. How can I contact the lecturer?

We encourage you to contact us directly after lectures. Please be aware that we cannot process requests about subject matter via e-mail.

3a. It is difficult for me to handle BOKU learn.

If you have a question regarding e-learning or BOKU learn please send a mail to the support team using your official BOKU e-mail account (e.g. "j.doe@students.boku.ac.at") at e-learning(at)boku.ac.at.

Your request will be forwarded to a member of the support team by the support ticketing system. As a result, you will recieve a confirmation of your request containing your ticket number that you can use for further inquiry.

3b. It is difficult for me to handle BOKUonline.

If you have a question regarding BOKUonline please send a mail to the support team using your official BOKU e-mail account (e.g. "j.doe@students.boku.ac.at") at support.bokuonline(at)boku.ac.at.

Your request will be forwarded to a member of the support team by the support ticketing system. As a result, you will recieve a confirmation of your request containing your ticket number that you can use for further inquiry.

4. I was not able to register for the e-learning course for a lecture in BOKU learn.

There are several possible causes for this. First, you should register on BOKUonline for a lecture in the current semester. Within 24 hours you will then be automatically unlocked for the course at BOKU learn. Furthermore, it is possible to enroll yourself at BOKU learn. If you are still having problems, please contact the Information Technology Services (ZID) hotline: +43 1 47654-210 (hotline(at)boku.ac.at).

5. How and where do I find the latest documents for my lectures?

You have access to all lecture materials in BOKU learn or on the website of the Institute of Law. Please note that you have to be logged in to your account in order to view the downloads.

6. What does “You cannot register yourself for this course” mean?

Normally you will be registered automatically on BOKU learn courses by the BOKUonline system. If you receive a confirmed place, you will be automatically unlocked for BOKU learn on the following day. Self-registration on BOKU learn is therefore not usually possible. If the course does not appear on the course list, the lecturer has not (yet) made the course visible.

7. Not all lectures for which I have been registered on BOKUonline are listed in BOKU learn.

There are several possible causes for this. For all the lectures, BOKU learn courses are automatically created. By default, these courses are invisible to students. The lecturer has to unlock them for students.

The synchronisation process between BOKU learn and BOKUonline happens once every day. You will have to wait until the process is completed to get access to the BOKU learn course. If you have a place on the waiting list, you will not automatically be registered. Please contact your lecturer.

8. Why did my courses disappear from BOKU learn?

The e-mail address is the primary key for the synchronisation between BOKUonline and BOKU learn. If you change your e-mail address on BOKUonline, it takes a day or two for the change to be transferred to BOKU learn. After that, your courses should appear again under "My BOKU learn".

9. How can I deregister from a course?

You are automatically registered on all BOKU learn courses by BOKUonline. You can cancel a course on BOKUonline and you will then be signed out automatically from BOKU learn on the following day.

 Exams

10. How can I register for or deregister from an exam?

Registration and deregistration take place exclusively via BOKUonline. You can cancel your registration at any time until 0.00 a.m. three days prior to the exam. The staff of the Institute of Law do not register or deregister students.

11. What is the examination material? What documents can be used for preparation? Is it sufficient to use previous examination material?

The examination material consists of the abstracts and lecture slides made available in BOKU learn or on the homepage of the Institute of Law (see "Downloads"): http://www.wiso.boku.ac.at/en/law/lehrveranstaltungen/. Please note that you have to be logged in to your account in order to have access to the downloads.

Additionally, BOKU learn offers test-examples after each lecture. Those tests should give you an impression of the question-design in the exam. They do NOT represent the exam material and are meant for practice only.

12. What materials can be taken into an exam?

You are not allowed to bring any kind of assistant materials (legal resources such as RIS, scripts what so ever). Our multiple choice questions can be answered without using any further materials.

13. I did not deregister from an exam. What happens next? What does a ban of 90 days mean?

If you did not deregister and were not present during the exam, you will be blocked for 90 days from further attempts. During this period, you will not be able to take exams. However, you will not be graded negatively.

14. I am ill and cannot take the exam. What should I do?

You must send a medical certificate from a physician to the secretary’s office at the Institute of Law within one week after the exam. Otherwise your block remains.

15. I am unable to take the exam for personal reasons. Is it possible for my absence to be excused?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept personal reasons other than the reasons mentioned above. You will be blocked for 90 days if you do not appear on the exam date.

16. Are there any exam dates other than the ones offered, e.g. if I have to take another exam at the same time in order to fulfil my scholarship requirements?

Because of the high number of students we are unable to provide individual exam dates. There are always several options offered in each semester. There should be no problems if you plan ahead.

17. I am taking this exam for the third time. What happens if I fail again?

You have four attempts to pass an exam. The fourth attempt marks the last one and is held in front of an examination board. The examination board consists of two examiners and a chairperson. You can get further information concerning the examination board from Study Services.

18. How do I find the room where the exam is taking place?

Please check where your exam is scheduled to take place. The exact locations are described on the BOKU Homepage.

19. I have lost/forgotten my student ID. Am I still able to take the exam?

You have to prove your identity during the exam. You can identify yourself with another piece of photo ID.

20. Can I see my marked exam paper?

After the official marking you will receive your grade at BOKUonline. From this time on you can view your results in BOKU learn. Furthermore, we offer you a set date on which you can view your marked exam paper at the Institute.

The results will be visible in the course the exam is assigned to. This is in most cases not the current course, but the one from one semester/year earlier. Exceptions are the exams in June and January, as they are the closing exams of the current semester.

21. How long does it take to mark the exams? When will I receive my grade?

The timetable is as follows: marking of all exam papers; submission of preliminary grades on BOKUonline; transmission of the results and announcement of the date when students can review their results; holding of the review date; final confirmation of the results. Questions concerning the length of this process do not shorten it in any way.
Thus, if you require your exam results soon after the exam, the only way to ensure that they arrive in time is to choose an early exam date.

22. When will the exam schedule for the next semester be released?

Exam schedules are released on BOKUonline as soon as they are set. We always offer three different dates per semester. Exact dates for the upcoming semester are usually released at the end of the current semester. You can find the current exam dates on BOKUonline.

23. Are there exams scheduled at the beginning of the fall semester?

Some exams are scheduled at the beginning of the semester. This is usually between the last week of September and the third week of October.

24. How many exams are there per semester?

There are three dates per semester: one at the beginning, one in the middle and one at the end.

25. German is not my native language. May I use a dictionary?

Yes, you may use a dictionary for the exam.
